The Problem
Poor heel perfusion can compromise the sample before it reaches the lab.
Premature and low birth weight neonates can struggle to maintain peripheral temperature. Poorly perfused heels make capillary sampling difficult and may lead to squeezing or “milking” of the heel.
Excessive squeezing can dilute the specimen with tissue fluid and increase the probability of haemolysis. A rejected sample often means another prick, more delay and more nursing time.

A simple activation step makes NeoWarm™ easy to integrate into NICU blood collection protocols.

Bend the internal metal disc Activate the pouch by bending the disc inside the warmer.

Exothermic warming begins The sodium acetate system starts warming after activation.

Apply around the heel Wrap around the infant’s heel using the attached strip.

Wait 3–5 minutes, then collect Proceed with the heel-prick procedure after the recommended warming period.
